Spring 2008 Season Info

Updated January 7

I have to file our final Team Registration and Scheduling Request later this week.

Please read through the following and email me if you have any questions.

Game Scheduling:

With over 700 teams expected to play and soccer fields under reconstruction this year Heartland is limited by the number of weekends available for spring league play and by the number of fields currently available.

Season play will begin March 15.

Because of the limited number of fields available we can expect to play some games on Sundays.

With two teams this year we have the ability to move some players from one team to the other for certain games. This will provide the flexibility to reward players based on performance and provide additional playing time for players who cannot play on a specific date or who do not play on Sundays.

The rainout weekend for this spring will be June 7-8.  All teams who are not participating in State Cup MUST be available to play on this weekend.  Teams playing in State Cup will be provided other options to make up games cancelled during rainouts.

Special attention needs to be given to Spring Break.  Heartland can only allow teams to take ONE of the spring break weekends off.  These weekends are March 15/16 and March 22/23. If you already have plans to be out of town either weekend please email me now.

Games in Topeka
Because of the limited number of fields available for the spring premier teams we may have one day of league play in Topeka.  The Sunflower Soccer fields are among the very best in the State of Kansas.  We may be scheduled to play a "double header", ie  to travel to Topeka for 2 games in one day.  For example, we could play at 11am and 2:30 pm.  We could car-pool if transportation is a challenge for some families.

Seeding And Team Placement
Heartland has "tweaked" the seeding system for the premier teams.  Their league staff will initially pre-seed the teams based on previous season's results and overall team history.  We have requested that our Liverpool team play in division 1 and Celtic play division 2, however Heartland will determine our final placements.

Schedules

Schedules will be posted online approximately March 5.  The games will begin March 15.

Tournaments:

We plan to play 2 or 3 Spring tournaments provided we have enough starters interested. Two would be in the Greater KC area and one out of town. Cost for tournaments usually run $35-$40 per player.

State Cup:

The premier tournament in Kansas, the 2008 Kansas State Championships, the first step to advancing to the US Youth Soccer Region II Midwest Regional Championships and the US Youth Soccer National Championships, will be held with single elimination games for U16s starting June 4-7th.

If we play well early in the season we will play State Cup this year.
